John F. Kennedy Community Service Awards Gala

On September 25, Oklahoma City will shine a spotlight on civic leadership and philanthropy as the Santa Fe Family Life Center hosts its annual John F. Kennedy Community Service Awards Gala. This signature event honors Oklahomans whose work has transformed lives and inspired a culture of service across the state.

Held at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center’s Meinders Hall of Mirrors, the evening celebrates individuals who embody the spirit of President Kennedy’s call to service through action, impact, and unwavering community commitment.

Among this year’s honorees are Tim and Liz McLaughlin, revered community leaders and champions for Oklahoma City’s youth. Through their nonprofit Fields & Futures, they’ve rebuilt over 50 athletic fields across OKC public schools, using sports as a powerful tool to keep students engaged in school and life. Their charitable foundation also invests more than $1.8 million annually in local nonprofits addressing family support, education, and systemic barriers. Their hands-on approach and lasting impact exemplify the heart behind the Mark Ruffin Lifetime Achievement Award.

Following that legacy of service, the John F. Kennedy Community Service Award is being presented to Joe Castiglione, Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University of Oklahoma. Since 1998, Castiglione has guided OU Athletics to 25 national championships and more than 100 conference titles. But his greatest victories go beyond sports. Under his leadership, OU student-athletes have contributed thousands of hours to outreach programs each year, and Castiglione has consistently championed character, mentorship, and lifelong service as core values of the university.

Coach Sherri Coale, another John F. Kennedy Community Service Award honoree, spent over two decades leading the University of Oklahoma’s women’s basketball team, guiding them to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and three Final Fours. Off the court, Coale is a passionate advocate for education, women’s leadership, and giving back to the community. Her work continues to uplift future generations—through coaching, mentorship, and public service.

While the night honors remarkable individuals, it also fuels something even greater. The JFK Community Service Awards Gala directly supports the Santa Fe Family Life Center’s expanding impact across Oklahoma City, funding programs that serve individuals with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and underserved youth.

As Executive Director Josh Norman explains:
“The JFK Gala honors remarkable Oklahomans whose contributions continue to shape our state. We are thrilled to recognize this year’s inspiring recipients. Every contribution helps advance our mission at the Santa Fe Family Life Center, strengthening partnerships with organizations like Wings, the OKC Indian Clinic, and Positive Tomorrows. Your support allows us to expand services for individuals with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and underserved youth throughout Oklahoma City.”

Join us in honoring these leaders and supporting a mission that serves thousands across Oklahoma City.
