In Oklahoma City, Spine and Spirit stands out as a sanctuary for health and healing, combining cutting-edge techniques like Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) with personalized chiropractic care. Led by Dr. Jolett Rod, an experienced chiropractor and advocate for whole-body wellness, Spine and Spirit offers a transformative approach to achieving pain-free movement and overall vitality.

At Spine and Spirit, the focus isn’t just on treating symptoms. Dr. Rod takes a personalized, evidence-based approach to uncover the root causes of pain and dysfunction. Through DNS, she empowers patients to restore natural movement patterns, improve stability, and strengthen the body’s foundation.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization was developed by Pavel Kolar, a renowned Czech physiotherapist, in the 1990s at the Prague School of Rehabilitation and Manual Medicine. The methodology of DNS draws upon the understanding of how infants develop natural motor patterns and postural stability in their first year of life.

DNS methodology is based on the developmental kinesiology milestones of infants, which serve as the foundation for a lifetime of coordinated movement, balance, and posture. Compensational movements over time that deviate from these fundamental patterns can result in dysfunction, pain, and injury as adults. Chiropractic focuses on restoring joint alignment, improving nerve function, and relieving pain. DNS enhances these outcomes by addressing the neuromuscular system’s role in maintaining proper alignment and movement patterns. Spine and Spirit utilizes a patient-first approach, where DNS exercises are tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

The core principles of DNS integrate core stabilization, neuromuscular coordination, and proper diaphragmatic breathing to help patients regain confidence in their body’s ability to move without limitation.

How DNS Works in Practice

1. Improved Core Stability: A stable core is essential for spinal health and peripheral movement function. DNS helps patients activate their core muscles, particularly the diaphragm, to support the spine and pelvis during movement, reducing strain on the joints and ligaments.

2. Neuromuscular Coordination: DNS retrains the nervous system to activate muscles in the correct sequence, ensuring efficient and pain-free movement. This complements chiropractic adjustments by addressing the underlying motor dysfunctions that lead to joint restrictions and pain.

3. Postural Alignment: Poor posture can lead to chronic pain and musculoskeletal issues. DNS reinforces proper postural patterns by balancing spinal mobility with core stability, providing long-term relief.

4. Functional Breathing Integration: Breathing patterns are central to DNS. Many patients unknowingly adopt improper breathing patterns that compromise core stability and exacerbate pain. Proper diaphragmatic breathing not only supports core stability but also optimizes oxygenation, stress reduction, and neuromuscular function.

Dr. Rod pairs DNS with manual therapy to equip patients with the tools and knowledge they need to maintain their results, encouraging a lifestyle of strength and resilience. She uses functional exercises such as lying, rolling, crawling and squatting paired with hands-on techniques to re-educate the neuromuscular system.

Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain, recovering from an injury or surgery, striving to meet new fitness goals, or simply wanting to improve your posture and movement, the combination of DNS and chiropractic care teaches your body how to thrive. Invest in yourself and the innovative techniques at Spine and Spirit, where Dr. Rod isn’t just eliminating pain, she’s using her empathy and expertise to give patients their life back. Schedule your first appointment today and take the first step toward a stronger, healthier you.

The Santa Fe Family Life Center (SFFLC) operates with a clear and unwavering mission: to improve the health of Oklahomans by providing sports and fitness programs that are accessible to all, regardless of income or ability. As a nonprofit organization, the center serves as a vital resource for the community, offering opportunities for individuals with disabilities and disadvantaged youth to engage in sports and wellness activities. In the past year alone, SFFLC has donated over 1,500 hours of facility usage, run adaptive sports programs, and served more than 9,000 children in youth leagues. The center also partners with over 25 local nonprofits—including Dale Rogers Training Center, Greater OKC Pickleball Club, Oklahoma Adaptive Sports Association, Oklahoma City VA, Special Olympics, and Wings—to expand its reach, ensuring that athletics and physical fitness are available to those who need them most.

One of the most anticipated events that directly aligns with this mission is the upcoming Adaptive Sports Expo on May 8th. This expo is designed to showcase a variety of adaptive sports, offering hands-on experiences for individuals with disabilities while raising awareness about the importance of inclusive athletics. Attendees will have the chance to explore activities such as wheelchair basketball, adaptive tennis, and other sports that demonstrate the power of movement and competition in fostering confidence and independence. With interactive sessions and expert-led demonstrations, the event is set to be a celebration of ability, resilience, and community.

As SFFLC continues to grow and expand its impact, it is also welcoming new leadership. Joshua Norman has recently been appointed as the center’s Executive Director, bringing with him a wealth of experience in personal development and community engagement. Norman previously served as the Director of the S.O.U.L. Mission at the University of Oklahoma, where he worked closely with student-athletes to instill leadership values and civic responsibility. His passion for service and building strong, inclusive communities makes him a perfect fit for SFFLC’s vision. His leadership at SFFLC is expected to bring fresh ideas and renewed energy to the center’s efforts in promoting accessible health and fitness programs.

Looking ahead, the Santa Fe Family Life Center is preparing for another major event—the JFK Awards Gala in September. This annual event honors individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the community while supporting the center’s ongoing initiatives. It serves as a key fundraising opportunity to expand SFFLC’s programs and continue providing access to sports for people of all abilities. More details on dates, sponsorship opportunities, and ticket information can be found on the center’s website.

With the Adaptive Sports Expo on the horizon and new leadership driving its mission forward, Santa Fe Family Life Center continues to create opportunities for inclusive health and wellness. To learn more, get involved, or support SFFLC’s mission, visit sfflc.com.

Spring is more than a change in weather—it’s a season of renewal, growth, and transformation. Just as nature resets, so can individuals. At Resilient Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Services, mental health is seen as deeply intertwined with the connections people nurture—within themselves, with others, and with the natural world.

“Healing isn’t a solo journey. The more someone invests in connection—with themselves, others, and nature—the stronger their emotional foundation becomes,” says Christina Whelan, founder of Resilient Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Services.

When connection is lost, people drift away from what truly matters. Mental health is shaped by the thoughts they entertain, the relationships they foster, and the environmental stressors they encounter. By making conscious choices, they can protect their emotional space and well-being:

Neglecting oneself leads to exhaustion, resentment, and emotional depletion.

“Burnout isn’t a badge of honor. Pushing through fatigue and stress doesn’t prove strength; it erodes well-being.” Whelan says, encouraging individuals to prioritize their mental and emotional health.

Prioritizing well-being isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. When individuals care for themselves, they are better equipped to support others. Consider these essential reminders:

Redirecting Focus and Control What Strengthens You

One of the greatest sources of anxiety and stress is focusing on things beyond control. The mind naturally fixates on uncertainty, leading to feelings of helplessness. Instead of getting caught in the noise, individuals can shift their attention to what strengthens and connects them:

The key to resilient living lies in balance: validating struggles while also cultivating intentionality in protecting the mind and heart. At Resilient Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Services, compassionate care is available to help individuals navigate their journey. Schedule a consultation today and invest in a stronger, more balanced you.

As the colder months approach, many people find it difficult to stay motivated with their fitness routines. Winter often brings a desire to slow down, but Hotworx Moore provides solutions to keep your fitness on track. Members at the Moore location are already seeing great results with the studio’s infrared sauna workouts, which maximize calorie burn, detoxify the body, and promote faster recovery, making it an ideal choice for maintaining your fitness goals during the colder months.

Here are five key benefits Hotworx offers to boost your winter workouts.

  1. Accelerate Calorie Burn with Infrared Heat
Hotworx’s infrared sauna workouts significantly boost calorie burn by raising your core body temperature. As the heat penetrates deeply, your body works harder to cool itself down, resulting in more calories burned. This “afterburn effect” continues even after the workout is complete, allowing you to torch more fat, which is especially helpful during the winter when staying active can be more challenging.
  2. Detoxify for Better Health
Infrared heat promotes a deep, cleansing sweat, helping your body eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and pollutants. In contrast to traditional saunas, infrared heat works from the inside out, allowing for a deeper detoxification process. During winter, when the body tends to hold on to excess toxins due to reduced outdoor activity, Hotworx’s infrared saunas provide the perfect way to cleanse and rejuvenate your system.
  3. Faster Recovery for Consistent Training
The infrared heat used at Hotworx enhances muscle relaxation and improves circulation, speeding up recovery after intense workouts. Winter can be a harsh season for fitness enthusiasts, as colder weather increases the risk of stiff muscles and injuries. By incorporating Hotworx into your routine, you’ll enjoy quicker recovery times, reduced inflammation, and the ability to maintain consistent training without interruption.
  4. Combat Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) with Infrared Heat
The winter months can lead to feelings of sluggishness, fatigue, or even seasonal depression, known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The warmth and infrared lightfrom Hotworx workouts may help boost your mood by increasing serotonin levels and promoting mental well-being. Regular infrared sauna sessions can provide both a mental and physical lift, helping you overcome the winter blues while staying active.
  5. An Indoor Fitness Solution for Cold Weather
Outdoor exercise can be difficult or impossible during the colder months, but Hotworx’s infrared sauna rooms provide a warm, indoor environment for your fitness routine. With a variety of workouts like hot yoga, Pilates, and cycling, the combination of heat and exercise ensures you get the most out of every session. The added efficiency of infrared heat means even shorter workouts can deliver significant results, making it easier to stay consistent despite the busy holiday season.

Maximize Your Winter Fitness with Hotworx

Hotworx’s unique infrared workouts offer a blend of calorie-burning power, detoxification, faster recovery, and mental wellness, all while keeping you warm and motivated throughout the colder months. Winter doesn’t have to be a time to slow down your fitness goals—with Hotworx, you can stay ahead of the game, maximize your workout results, and keep pushing forward on your wellness journey.

For anyone looking to stay fit during the colder months, Hotworx’s infrared sauna workouts in Moore, Oklahoma provide the perfect solution. The combination of increased calorie burn, detoxification, and accelerated recovery makes these workouts incredibly effective, while the variety of class options ensures there’s something for everyone. As winter sets in, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of Hotworx’s
revolutionary approach to fitness and experience the transformative power of infrared heat. With Hotworx Moore, you can maximize your winter workouts and stay on track with your fitness goals, no matter the season.

As winter approaches and routines get busier, staying committed to your fitness goals can be challenging. That’s why we’ve identified the top fitness trends to keep you moving. These innovative modalities are designed to keep your routine fresh while delivering maximum impact in less time—perfect for maintaining your health and wellness goals through the colder months and into the new year.

HIIT + Heart Rate Training

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) remains a powerhouse for burning calories and building endurance, but with the added element of heart rate monitoring, you get real-time feedback on how hard your body is working. This approach takes HIIT to the next level by personalizing your workout intensity, helping you achieve faster results. Perfect for anyone looking to break a sweat in short, effective bursts without spending hours in the gym.

Infrared Heat Workouts

Why just work out when you can detox while you’re at it? Infrared heat-based workouts are gaining popularity for their ability to increase calorie burn, improve circulation, and promote detoxification—all while you work out. The heat creates a sauna-like effect, pushing your body to work harder and recover faster. A unique option for those wanting a workout with extra health benefits.

Functional Strength & Mental Toughness

Functional training is all about preparing your body for real-life movements and challenges. By incorporating elements that train strength, balance, and coordination, you’re not just building muscles—you’re becoming more capable in everyday activities. Add in a mental toughness component, and you’ve got a workout that’s as much about pushing mental boundaries as physical ones.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)

Cutting-edge technology like EMS engages deeper muscle fibers than traditional strength training, allowing for a full-body workout in just 20 minutes. It’s a game-changer for those with tight schedules or anyone seeking an efficient way to tone muscles without spending hours lifting weights.

Stay safe, stay active, and make the most of this winter season!

In the heart of Moore, Oklahoma, Michelle Schlaud and Dawn Cruz, the dynamic duo and owners of HOTWORX Moore, have created a haven for health and wellness enthusiasts. Their journey into the world of HOTWORX was not just a business endeavor but a personal transformation inspired by the remarkable benefits of this unique fitness concept. Dawn, unfortunately, had been grappling with health issues, including an autoimmune disease, for the past 5-8 years. It was during this challenging period that Michelle introduced her to the transformative experience of a HOTWORX studio in Tulsa.

HOTWORX offers a unique exercise program designed for users to enjoy the advantages of infrared heat absorption during a 30-minute Isometric workout or 15-minute High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session. As the infrared heat permeates your body, inducing sweat, the isometric postures enhance detoxification by actively expelling toxins from your organs through muscle contraction. Our patented sauna integrates heat, infrared, and exercise, creating what we fondly refer to as “3D Training.” This distinctive approach sets HOTWORX apart as a workout experience unparalleled by any other fitness program on the market.

“Dawn loved it!” Michelle says. The infrared sauna, a key component of the HOTWORX program, worked wonders for her. “My body was in less pain, I had more energy, and the infrared sauna significantly helped my neuropathy,” Dawn shares. Consistent sessions at HOTWORX brought about a positive metamorphosis for Dawn. Driven by this personal success story, Michelle and Dawn were inspired to share these benefits with their community. Thus, Hotworx Moore was born.

HOTWORX Moore is more than just a fitness studio; it’s a close-knit community and a family. The owners prioritize a family-friendly, warm, and inclusive environment. Their aim is to create a space that is welcoming to everyone, free from judgment. Members at Hotworx Moore experience a unique camaraderie.

The community is wonderfully diverse, with individuals from various walks of life—local teachers, parents, college students, retirees, health workers, police officers, husband and wife teams, working adults—all coming together. This varied mix adds to the richness of the community, fostering connections and support among individuals with different backgrounds and experiences.

Beyond its fitness offerings, what truly distinguishes HOTWORX Moore is its community-driven ethos. The studio operates with an open-door policy, inviting members to share their thoughts and feedback freely. This commitment to transparency and accessibility is underscored by the fact that all members have direct access to the owners’ cell phone numbers. The HOTWORX Moore experience is defined by a genuine sense of community, where each member’s voice is heard and valued.

Creating a stress-free environment is crucial for the owners, who understand the demands of modern life. “Each time I walk into HOTWORX Moore for my shift, I walk in knowing the time will be enjoyable and stress-free because of the leadership and the team environment they have built there,” says Hannah, one of their employees. HOTWORX Moore isn’t just a fitness studio; it’s a sanctuary for relaxation and stress relief. Their goal was to create an environment that’s a great outlet for people with demanding jobs to come and relax and move stress-free.

HOTWORX Moore is gearing up for its grand opening in April, promising exciting events and specials throughout the summer. The community-focused approach, personalized attention, and the unique benefits of HOTWORX make this fitness studio a standout choice for those seeking more than just a workout.
